Welcome to Episode number 58! Jim reviews Photorescue and highly recommends the program to recover lost files from corrupt or formatted memory cards. A photographer in Botswana captured a sequence of images of a lioness attacking a crocodile to allow her cubs to cross a river. In addition, Fred captured a sequence of a pair of bobcats that crossed the road at a northern Florida state park. In the news, Canon releases firmware version 2.0 for the 7D, Triggertrap has updated the software for Triggertrap Mobile, and Canon recognizes a focus problem with their new 40mm pancake lens. Also in this episode, Jim interviews Barbara Land, and Josias Huanaquiri. Barbara is a professor from the University of Nevada who has been studying the culture and people of the Tahuayo region of the Amazon, and Josias is Jim's guide in the Amazon and will be our primary guide on future workshops to the Amazon. Jim just returned from his trip to the Peruvian Amazon and shows two of the timelapse images he made there. Jim is planning to run a photoraphy workshop there beginning next year through Outdoor Photo Workshops (www.outdoorphotoworkshops.com). Welcome to podcast #55. This week, Haje Jan Kamps, the Photo Critic, returns to bring us up to date on the Triggertrap and the Triggertrap Mobile. The Triggertrap products are devices (and an app!) that can trigger a camera based upon an event, such as movement, face recognition, sound, lightning, and many more. The systems are also capable of doing time-lapse photography and HDR. In the news, NASA releases a new startrails time-lapse photo, Canon has announced a firmware update for the new 5D Mk III and the 60D, Schneider Kreuznach, said it will begin making lenses for mirrorless cameras, Intel announced 'A Memory Lapse' competition for time-lapse and slow moton clips with $50,000 in prizes and Nokia has shown an app featuring photographic features unlike anything currently featured in compact cameras. Jim also shows off some new updated features for the GoPro Hero2 sports camera and discusses a new sports camera, Ion Air, that has just come on the market. In the recent photo news, Petapixel shows off images printed from negatives swallowed by artists, then pooped out in the dark and developed, Canon announces the newest member of the Rebel family as well as a series of summer workshops in the national parks, Panasonic is now the major stock holder of Olympus, Sony has announced the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards, and Apple has released Aperture 3.3. Our special guest is Charles MacPherson from Massachusetts. Charles runs workshops in the northeast United States including a workshop to photograph polar bears in Alaska! Welcome to podcast #53 featuring a discussion on time-lapse photography with programmer, author, and photographer Gunther Wegner. Gunther discusses talks about his time-lapse videos (Canary Skies, Alpine Skies, and Baltic Skies - available on YouTube) and demonstrates the work flow on his program LRTimeLapse (available for Mac and PCs at www.lrtimelapse.com). In addition, Gunther has written an ebook on time-lapse techniques also available at www.lrtimelapse.com. Highly recommended! Hopefully, Gunther will return to the podcast to discuss his film African Skies which he is currently working on. In the news, photographer Andrew Kane has a bear encounter in Yellowstone National Park and the bear attacked his rented Nikon camera. Although badly scratched the caemra still functioned, although the tripod did not fare so well. Also, the ITA may lift the 5.4% EU tax on devices that are able to record video over 30 minutes, Adobe releases the final versions of Lightroom 4.1 and ACR 7.1, and Nikon has firmware upgrades for the D4 and the D800. Also, Aardman animation "filmed" Pirates! Band of Misfits using 50 Canon 1D MkIIIs. Welcome to episode 52! This week, Jim joins Tom Snyder from the Florida International Teaching Zoo at Homosassa Springs State Park to photograph and videotape manatees. Jim also interviews park ranger, Ken Torres who talks about the park and the zoo located at the springs. This is a wonderful place to visit and highly recommended for photographers traveling to Florida. In the news, Olympus releases a new Tough series camera which is shockproof and waterproof. Leica releases a monochrome rangefinder camera. Adobe has announced a release candidate for RAW convertor 7.1. Welcome to podcast #51! In the news, Ikea releases a cardboard digital camera to the press, Nikon recalls some camera batteries, Olympus announces a new OM-D digital camera with a retro look. Jim returned from a very soggy weekend in the Everglades, but was able to partially rescue the trip with a stop at Cape Coral to photograph burrowing owls. Jim also demonstrates a technique to clean the digital sensor on a DSLR using a Canon 5D.
