Fotobug - Episode 118 - Camera Axe - Projectile module
Sunday Nov 30, 2014
Sunday Nov 30, 2014
Welcome to podcast number 118 which is a continuation of podcast 113. Fred and Jim use the Camera Axe and Projectile module to trigger a flash from a pellet gun and shoot some more crackers, balloons and even potatoes! In addition, they use a Sony NEX-5 in addition to a Canon 5D III to prove the camera isn't that important in high speed photography, The light comes from a single 580 MKII flash triggered by the Camera Axe. The flash is dialed down to a factor of 1/128 in order to produce a flash around 20,000 of a second. The results can be amazing!

In the news, Blocks camera is raising funds on Kickstarter for a modular camera, Metz of Germany has declared insolvency, Hasselblad has announced a $2395 mirrorless camera and tune in for more!
More workshops and interesting reviews and interviews coming up in the weeks ahead, so we recommend you subscribe to The Fotobug via iTunes so you don't miss an episode! Don't forget to rate us on iTunes and we suggest you "Like" us on Facebook!

The 2014 Black Hills Shootout in Rapid City, South Dakota is now history, but you can catch up on some of the excitement in podcast 114. Dave Black was absolutely incredible and if you get a chance to hear him speak, do not pass it up! The weather actually held for us, although the landscape photographers would have preferred to have a few clouds in the sky. This marks the 5th anniversary of the Shootout which will take place again in Rapid City next September, so start making your plans now!

I also want to thank our great sponsors, such as Tamron, who not only played an active part in the Shootout, they also provided loaner lenses for the participants.
Also, put on your calendars the Tampa Bay Shootout which will take place in April in St. Petersburg, FL. Go to www.thephotoshootout.com for details.
Next time, Jim will be back from his moose and black bear workshop in Maine and Rob Daugherty will be our guest!

Fotobug - Episode 113 - Balloons a poppin'!
Sunday Sep 21, 2014
Sunday Sep 21, 2014
Welcome to the Fotobug Podcast number 113! Photokina is now underway and we expect lots of announcement of new products over the coming weeks. Canon has released the upgrade to the 7D, the 7D Mark II and Nikon has just released the new D750 full frame DSLR. Jim and Fred discuss these as well as the new Western Digital My Passport portable drive with an SD card reader built in. Canon is also celebrating their 70th anniversary and Tamron has announced a 15-30mm f/2.8 zoom for full frame cameras.

Fred and Jim continue testing the NeroTrigger, this time testing the sound trigger. The setup included firing a pellet gun at various objects after dialing in the proper delay (actually it was discovered no delay was the setting that worked best). Several balloons and crackers sacrificed themselves for this test! The Nerotrigger is connected directly to the flash and you must have a darkened space in order to capture high speed flash images. If you try this yourself, please keep safety in mind and be careful with the pellet gun - you could put your eye out :) !
